Handforth Grange Primary School were awarded the title of ‘Cheshire Primary Choir of the Year’ at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe on Tuesday 19 March.
The Outstanding school qualified for the final four by winning a regional heat at Wilmslow High in February and then beat off stiff competition from three other leading Cheshire Choirs in the competition organised by the Love Music Trust.
Their performance of ‘Wade in the Water’ and then of ‘We are many’, an original song composed by their choir leader Dr. Caroline Vince won plaudits from the judges who were impressed by the choir’s enthusiasm, synchronicity and professionalism. Judge Shirley Court praised their “polished performance”.
Mark Unwin – Head Teacher said: “We are so proud of our fantastic choir which embodies the high expectations and aspirations of the school and our belief that music is one of the foundations of our exciting, rich curriculum. The other choirs were fantastic, which makes the win so much more special, and we wish to extend our congratulations to them and thanks to the Love Music Trust which does so much to support Primary school music.”
