On 5 May 2022, The Rt Hon. the Lord Field of Birkenhead CH DL celebrated a special investiture by the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE as a member of the Order of Companions Honour.
The Order of the Companions of Honour is an award given to people who have made a significant contribution to the arts, science, medicine or the government over a long period of time. The Order of the Companions of Honour was founded by George V in 1917 to recognise services of national importance.
The Rt Hon. the Lord Field of Birkenhead CH DL served as an MP for 40 years received one of the UK's most exclusive accolades in the 2022 Queen’s New Year's Honours list.
The Rt Hon. the Lord Field of Birkenhead CH DL was given the award for his “lifetime of public service”. The members, of which there are 65 at any one time, currently include actress Dame Maggie Smith, Lord Coe, Stephen Hawking, John Major and Desmond Tutu.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, is Her Majesty’s representative in Greater London and is charged with upholding the dignity of the Crown. Lord Field served as an MP for Birkenhead, from 1979 to 2019. A long-time campaigner for pension changes and against child poverty, he served from 1997 to 1998 as welfare reform minister in Tony Blair's government.
